'Don't know why'
‘Newcastle Five’ Rangers flop Kevin Mbabu remains baffled over never making Gers appearance
by Mark WalkerFORMER Rangers loan flop Kevin Mbabu admits he remains baffled why he never got to make a single appearance during his bizarre spell at Ibrox.
The Switzerland international cost Wolfsburg £8million and has been widely praised for his performances in the Bundesliga this season.
But the right-back remains confused about a curious spell at Ibrox five years ago when he was one of five Newcastle United players loaned to Rangers in one day when they were in the Championship.
The others were Gael Bigirimana, Haris Vuckic, Remie Streete and Shane Ferguson
Remarkably, Mbabu didn't see a single minute of action under either Kenny McDowall or Stuart McCall, nor did he even make the bench in his four-month spell at the club and he admitted he will forever be puzzled why.
He said: "There were four other players from Newcastle who joined on loan at Rangers at the same time.

"But the manager who signed us resigned for family reasons two weeks later.
"A new manager came up in with his own ideas and I didn't even play a game or even make the bench. I don't know why.
"I was able to play a few matches for Rangers reserves I suppose.
"But despite everything, I still left Rangers with positive memories and it all helped me get to where I am in my career today."
Of the five that briefly joined Rangers, Bigirimana is now with Solihull Moors after spells at Motherwell and Hibs, Vuckic is in the Netherlands at Twente Enschede, Streete is without a club after failing to win a deal at Notts County last year after a spell with Port Vale and Ferguson is at Millwall.
