Lost walkers ‘met by police’ as mountain rescue team receives first call-out of lockdown

Police are said to have met a group of walkers after they sparked a Scottish mountain rescue team’s first call-out of the lockdown at the weekend.

The Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team were asked by police to attend The Cobbler, in Argyll, on Sunday at 3.20pm after three people got lost in mist on the mountain.

The hillwalkers, from Motherwell, were found and escorted safely down from the 2900ft Corbett.

They are said to have been fined by police afterwards.

A statement from the Arrochar Mountan Rescue Team reads: “Today we had our first call-out since lockdown began.

“Arrochar MRT were called out by Police Scotland at 3.20pm for three hillwalkers from Motherwell who were lost in the mist on The Cobbler, Arrochar, Argyll.

“All three were located and safely escorted down the hill (from a safe distance).

“Police met them at the bottom to discuss/explain the current Scottish regulation on travel during lockdown and issued them with the relevant fine.”

Police have been contacted for comment.
