Little girl pulled back from edge of 400ft cliff after peering over
by Zoe DrewettPictures show the frightening moment a little girl is pulled back from a cliff edge after peering over to look at the sheer drop below.
The curious youngster was walking along the 400ft chalk cliffs at Birling Gap, near Eastbourne, on Sunday with her family when she attempted to have a peek over the edge.
She is quickly dragged back by a concerned adult in scenes recognised by worried parents across the country.
The photos reveal how high up the little girl is and how windy the area was, with her long hair blowing wildly.
Tourists have been warned about the dangers of the East Sussex location, as its crumbling chalk cliffs frequently give way in bad weather.
The rural location attracted self-isolating visitors on Sunday as the UK enjoyed wall-to-wall sunshine and highs of 25C.
Forecasters says the fine and warm weather will continue today for the Whitsun Bank Holiday.
The Met Office said there will be mist and low cloud in the West early on, but this should give way to fine, dry weather in most parts of the country. There will be long sunny periods, with inland areas becoming warm.
Temperatures should reach as high as 24C in London, with 21C expected in Newcastle, 20C in Edinburgh and Belfast and 22C in Southampton.
It will be slightly cooler in the South West, with 17C forecast for Land’s End in Cornwall.
Little rain is forecast but a band of cloud descending from the North West is expected to bring some showers.
