Horner looks at it calmly: "Let's not forget that Mercedes has a place''
by Editorial TeamWhile most teams had their phones red-hot because of the driver's carousel, Christian Horner was able to watch all the news. Red Bull Racing has already coloured the future and doesn't need a new driver.
Quiet period for Horner
''In this scenario, of course, the hustle and bustle was fun. It's great that we've already captured Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon is also doing very well'', says Horner in conversation with The-race.com. However, the departure of Sebastian Vettel hurt Horner and he hopes that the German will find a place in Formula 1.
''Vettel will have plenty of options. He has had a great career and it would be a great pity if he leaves. He has had enormous successes and he has really thought long and hard about this decision. However, he has chosen to leave Ferrari and I wish him good luck for the future''.
Vettel to Mercedes
Red Bull has already indicated that besides Verstappen there is no place to bring Vettel back to his old team, but Horner still sees a good opportunity for a top team for the four-time world champion. According to Horner, Vettel would be a good candidate for a seat at Mercedes.
''Let's not forget that a seat is available at Mercedes for 2021 and that it would be a great deal for both parties," says Horner, who also received a message from Daniel Ricciardo after his move. ''I got a nice message from him and I'm sure he'll have his reasons for leaving Renault after just twelve months, while we haven't driven a race yet'', concludes Horner.
