Volkswagen mulls launch of entry-level Jetta brand in emerging markets
by Ryan BubearA fresh report suggests Volkswagen is considering launching its entry-level Jetta sub-brand in emerging markets outside of China.
According to Automotive News Europe, Jetta brand president Harald Müller said the marque could be extended to other markets.
"The successful start has of course also sparked interest from other markets in the Volkswagen world," Müller said.
According to the publication, the Jetta brand has gained around one percent of the Chinese market after just eight months in existence. While Müller did not mention which other countries might be in line to gain the Jetta brand, emerging markets seem the most likely bet.
The Jetta range is manufactured by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture in Chengdu and includes one sedan and two SUVs "specially tailored" for the Chinese market.
