State, local leaders have priorities correct

I am the wife of a severely immune-compromised husband, the daughter of a beloved grandmother and daughter-in-law of another wonderful grandmother (both 80-plus), sister-in-law to a fragile brother-in-law, aunt to a nephew with asthma and another nephew with Down syndrome, friend to a treasured former co-worker who died from COVID-19, friend to another who lost her father-in-law to COVID-19, and mother to daughters who worry endlessly about their dad and other loved ones.

These are just the people in our relatively small circle who are vulnerable to or have died from COVID-19. Tell me again how preventing the people in my life who remain healthy from getting the virus is offset “a thousand times” by serious economic hardship. We are in this position due to an utter and ongoing criminal lack of leadership on a federal level. I share the anger several writers have expressed, but it is not at those who understand science and those who listen to them. In the meantime, my family and loved ones are my priority and I am glad they are my governor’s and other state and local leaders’ priorities, as well.
