The manager of the demolished Prodest Hotel, Eleme is one of the 27 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Rivers state.
The Rivers state government pointed out that the development validates its proactive fight against COVID-19, Vanguard reports.
Paulinus Nsirim, the state’s commissioner for information and communication, made the statement on Sunday, May 24, when giving an update about the COVID-19 cases in the state, Vanguard reports.
Nsirim noted that that the Prodest Hotel was demolished two weeks ago because the owner violated Executive Order 7 which banned the operation of hotels as a measure to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

In another report, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has been asked to prevail on the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike to proceed on mandatory isolation immediately for the next 14 days.
The call was made by a renowned scholar, Dr Uche Igwe, who accused the governor of undue politicization of the fight against COVID-19 in the state.
Dr Igwe said his advise to the NCDC was as a result of the governor's participation in a public event where the protocols of social distancing were not adhered to.
“Mr Nyesom Wike has broken the rules set by the government. He may actually be the one sabotaging the effort to fight the pandemic in Rivers state," Dr Igwe said.

Meanwhile, a total of 25 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have expressed outrage over the recent demolition of two hotels by Governor Nyesom Wike for flouting the lockdown directives of the Rivers state government.
The CSOs in a statement on Wednesday, May 13, described Governor Wike's action as “an act of impunity, assault on rule of law and setback to civilisation.”
The CSOs include notable civil rights movement like the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy, Socio-economic Rights Action Project, Legal Defence & Assistance Project, Democracy and Human Rights Network among others.
The groups decried the reckless abuse of power by Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state and his consistent drift towards a full-blown dictatorship.
While stating that citizens must comply with orders meant to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CSOs, however, noted that two wrongs cannot make a right.
