Why did the cygnets cross the road? To get to a different lake.
But for these tiny baby swans getting back on the pavement was a big challenge.
Swans George and Zelda had their own human escorts stopping the traffic as they took their seven cygnets across a road in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
In adorable footage filmed by Simone Hethershaw the birds and their young make relatively straightforward work of crossing the carriageways.
But it is the kerb that presents the biggest challenge for the youngsters as they attempt to scramble up on to the pavement.
At one point the cygnets are all in a row hilariously running into the the kerb repeatedly.
The row gets smaller and smaller until there is one lone cygnet who finally gets up with a determined jump and a distressed squeal as it runs to catch up with the rest of the family.
George and Zelda, who live in Pittville Park, are somewhat of a celebrity couple in Cheltenham with locals there keeping up with the pair's drama for years.
In 2017 George was shot in the head with a crossbow and stopped breathing on the operating table, Gloucestershire Live reported.
But Vale Wildlife hospital helped George to make it through despite how much blood he had lost.
The year after that he got a fish hook stuck in his neck which the Vale had to treat again before he was back with Zelda.
This year the couple's happy news was the birth of the seven cygnets on April 29.
