Vettel already talked to Wolff at the end of 2019 about a transfer'

Sebastian Vettel will leave Ferrari at the end of 2020 and where the four-time world champion might have hoped for a mountain of offers, that seems to be not so bad for the time being. Vettel himself already made an attempt to get somewhere.

After four titles with Red Bull Racing and a failed campaign at Ferrari, Vettel has to look for a new team for 2021 and that will not be easy. At Red Bull they don't want to have the former driver back and McLaren didn't even consider Vettel before Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris were appointed.

Vettel to Mercedes

Perhaps the most important option for Vettel is Mercedes and according to sources of Motorsport.com the German has already made an attempt at Mercedes. For example, at the end of 2019 he would have already had conversations with Toto Wolff, who at that time did not say "no", but is clearly holding back the boat.

Wolff would use the attention around Vettel for the pressure of his own shoulders. New Daimler boss Ola Kallenius does have an ear for a German driver. Wolff himself, however, looks more to his own drivers and is said to be looking at a possibility to put George Russell in the car from 2021 onwards.
