POS device makers coping with pandemic
by Ninelu Tu, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMESPOS (point of sale/service) device makers Flytech Technology, Posiflex Technology and Partner Tech have enhanced added-value for and extended application of their products to cope with negative impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, according to industry sources.
The pandemic has devastated many retail stores and restaurants, decimating their demand for POS devices.
The makers have used AI to enable POS devices to provide smart services, the sources said. In addition to retail stores and restaurants, they have extended use of POS devices to medical care, security surveillance, transportation services and exhibitions, the sources noted.
However, IPC solution developers, such as Advantech, Avalue Technology, Ibase Gaming, Parpro and Axiomtek, have seen sharp declines in demand for gaming machines or computing boards for such machines, as casinos around the world have generally shut down due to the pandemic, the sources indicated.
