Bruno Fernandes recalls the two Man Utd moments he wishes he could relive

by

Not much has gone wrong for Bruno Fernandes since his arrival at Manchester United in January.

Indeed, at Old Trafford where the Portuguese signing from Sporting Lisbon is already revered, it has mostly gone just right.

The creative midfielder's switch emboldened Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, breathing new life into their 2019-20 season before it was halted by the coronavirus enforced suspension.

When the Premier League does resume, the Red Devils find themselves firmly entrenched in the battle for Champions League places.

Then there is also the FA Cup and Europa League - should both of those competitions go ahead - with Solskjaer able to finally pair Fernandes with fit-again duo Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

On football's resumption, United are being tipped to flourish and Fernandes to continue shining.

Picking up where he left off will be a good start, having already helped himself to three goals, four assists and an unbeaten start to life in Manchester.

But which moment, if he could choose to, would he relive from the opening months of his United career?

In a club Q&A session he revealed: "The game I would like to watch would be the game where I scored my first goal, against Watford.

"Because I want to feel – not exactly how I would feel in the game – but I can feel the game, the atmosphere and everything when I score.

"I can have the motivation to keep training and keep the focus on the return of the game."

And what if he could relive a United game from the club's history, and step into the shoes of someone else?

For that, Fernandes picks an up-and-down night for a compatriot and international teammate, which ended in him lifting Europe's biggest prize for the first time.

"I think from history I have maybe one game – the Champions League final when Cristiano [Ronaldo] scores with the header. After this, he misses a penalty, I think it’s the same one right, against Chelsea? This one.

"I think it was a great final and for Cristiano it was one of the best games yet. Because he scored an amazing goal with a header. He doesn’t jump, he flies.

"After this, he missed the penalty but at the end United won the Champions League and at the end we see him crying on the ground because he won the Champions League.

"It was one of the most important games in the history of Manchester United.”
