A CONFESSED member of the New People’s Army’s Militiang Bayan on Sunday surrendered to police authorities in Sto. Niño, Cagayan saying he wants to return to mainstream of the society and avail of the government’s E-CLIP program for rebel returnees.

Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Angelito A. Casimiro said the confessed rebel yielded to officers of the Sto. Niño Municipal Police Station at 9:50 a.m. Sunday and was immediately subjected to documentation.

The rebel whose name was withheld for security purposes said he has been with the NPA movement since 2016, the year strong typhoon ‘Lawin’ devastated many parts of Cagayan.

The papers of the surrendered NPA member will be processed by the Cagayan Police Provincial Office headed by Colonel Ariel N. Quilang.

Casimiro said the man surrendered as a result of their ongoing stepped-up counter-insurgency campaign in the entire Cagayan Valley and their ongoing implementation of Executive Order No. 70 which aims to attract NPA members to surrender and avail of livelihood programs being offered by the government to enable them to feed their families.

“I am calling anew on NPA members in Cagayan Valley to lay down their arms and return to the fold of the law and take advantage of the E-CLIP program of the government in order for them to live a normal life with their loved ones,” the PRO2 director said.
