Akshay Kumar mourns the loss of hockey legend Balbir Singh

Akshay Kumar paid penned a heartfelt note remembering hockey legend Balbir Singh, who passed away today. The celebrated sportsman was 95. “Saddened to hear about the demise of hockey legend #BalbirSingh ji. Have had the good fortune of meeting him in the past, such an amazing personality! My heartfelt condolences to his family," Akshay had posted on Twitter.

The actor reportedly had met Balbir Singh when he was working on his Bollywood film ‘Gold’, which was set in the era when Balbir Singh was a celebrated hockey player.

Balbir Singh had also praised the film when the trailer was released, “I am pleased that with the forthcoming Akshay starrer movie called ‘GOLD ‘ is inspired by the gold medal winning 1948 Olympics INDIAN hockey team. More importantly, & hopefully, the movie will familiarize our younger generations with golden Historic Facts & I will be able to re-live some special moments of my life!”. Directed by Reema Kagti, ‘Gold’ featured Akshay in the lead and was co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar.
