Leeds United could have a secret weapon in Ian Poveda

Leeds United snapped up the talented winger in the winter.

There has been plenty of attention on Leeds United’s January signing Jean-Kevin Augustin during lockdown.

The Frenchman arrived at Leeds out of condition following a season on the sidelines at AS Monaco, on loan from RB Leipzig.

The result was a player susceptible to injury and not in line with Bielsa’s hard-working style.

But over the past few weeks, the attacker has been whipped into shape by Leeds’ specialised training programmes and is now looking lean, mean and ready to score goals for Leeds.

But could another January arrival, currently being ignored, also be a potential secret weapon for Leeds if football does get back underway next month.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Leeds United agreed a deal worth a potential £1 million to snap up Ian Poveda earlier this year.

But like Augustin, the 20-year-old is not yet at the level of fitness Bielsa demands. After featuring on the bench for games with Millwall and Wigan Athletic immediately after his arrival, Poveda was out of the matchday squad for the next seven games.

If Poveda has also used the time as well as Augustin he could potentially represent a serious first-team option for Leeds again as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

With injuries bound to happen and the potential of five substitutes being available in a game, Poveda might finally get his Leeds debut if football does restart.

If that is the case, Leeds United might have a secret weapon up their sleeve.
