Tottenham and Everton transfer boost as report claims Southampton may be forced to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

The Danish star has been linked with a move to both clubs this summer.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg may have been given a boost this week, by reports suggesting that Southampton could be forced to sell some of their key players this summer.

The Daily Star claims that Southampton face financial trouble as the club’s Chinese owner Gao Jisheng is trying to sell his majority stake in the club. Should he fail to do so, at a cut-price valuation of £150 million, Southampton will look to raise £100 million in the transfer market to cover their reported ‘spiralling debts’.

One of the players listed as potentially being available is the club’s Danish captain Hojbjerg.

It was reported in January that the Saints star was on Tottenham’s radar as a potential midfield recruit in the summer. Sky Sports suggested that the North London club were preparing a potential £35 million offer for the 24-year-old Saints captain.

The Evening Standard later suggested there remains ‘tentative’ interest in the player from Spurs.

Everton were also credited with an interest in the player by The Telegraph, whilst the player himself seemed to suggest to Sport1 recently (as relayed by the Daily Echo) that he is open to an exit from Southampton in the summer.

“I want to play at an even higher level than I am currently. The relationship between me and Southampton is fantastic.

“The club gave me the platform to grow. I’m not saying ‘Goodbye’ and I’m focused on my club, but my goal is very clear: I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League…

“…When I was 23 I became a captain in a Premier League club. Now I’m hungry to get to the next level.”

With the Saints potentially in a position where they need to sell key men, both Tottenham and Everton could find themselves in a strong bargaining position should they decide to follow up on this reported interest in the summer.
