Weather week in Latvia: gradually getting warmer

Sunshine and showers will be the best summary of Monday's weather conditions across Latvia, with the rest of this week gradually improving before becoming a true summer spell throughout next week, according to forecasters.

Monday will have plenty of clouds, but the sun will often shine between them. Mainly in the afternoon and evening, brief rain showers can be expected in many places, with the odd thunderstorm thrown in for good measure. Winds will be light.

Maximum air temperatures will be +14 Celsius to + 19 C degrees, and a few degrees cooler on the coast.

The rest of the week could be the warmest so far this year, and at the beginning of June the air temperature will rise even higher.

It is expected that on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26 and 27, the air temperature in Latvia will rise to a maximum of + 22 C, but along the coast it will not get warmer than +14 C. The middle of the week will be a little colder, but by the weekend +20 C can again be expected. Nights will be mild, too with the air temperature at night not expected to be lower than +3 C to + 9 C.

Rain and storm clouds are expected to return in early June, when the air temperature will climb to +25 C.

However, a prolonged heatwave is not yet on the cards. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute, a traditional Northern European summer is expected this year - cold and rainy days will be mixed with sunny and warm days.
