547 inmates released in Anambra, Kano - The Nation Nigeria

No fewer than 547 inmates have been released from correctional centres in Anambra and Kano states.
The Anambra command of the Service said it released more than 454 inmates in a bid to decongest the cells, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Emmanuel Nwakaeze, the state Controller of the Service, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Sunday.

He explained that 54 inmates with federal offences received presidential amnesty under the prerogative of mercy of the governor, while about 400 others were released on bail by the Chief Judge from the four custodial centres in Nnewi, Onitsha, Ekwulobia and Awka.
In Kano, Governor Umar Ganduje pardoned 293 inmates in the spirit of the Eid-el-Fitr, and also in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive to states across the country to decongest custodial centres as a way of curbing spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
