The head of the Health Service Executive (HSE) has said any guidance on social distancing will only come from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET)
However Paul Reid acknowledged that reducing social distancing limits would "significantly" increase hospital capacity.
The two metre rule to stop the spread of COVID-19 is still in place by Government, with the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar saying there is no change.
The issue is expected to be raised between ministers and the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan next week.
Cuffe speaks against leader change
A Green Party MEP has said now is not the time for a change of leadership.
Last week, deputy leader Catherine Martin said she would give 'serious consideration' to contesting the upcoming leadership election.
A number of party councillors have nominated her to challenge Eamon Ryan's leadership.
The Greens have to hold a leadership contest within six months of a general election.
Growing calls for Cummings resignation
Calls are mounting in Britain for the resignation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's top aide, Dominic Cummings.
Mr Cummings has been accused of breaking coronavirus lockdown rules there, after he travelled from his London home with his wife and son to stay with his elderly parents in Durham in the north of England - even after developing coronavirus symptoms.
Meanwhile more reports emerged overnight in Britain's Mirror and Observer newspapers of a second trip to Durham during the lockdown.
However Downing Street said that the fresh allegations about a second visit contain some falsehoods, although it did not say what they are.
Investigation into house fire deaths
Gardaí are investigating the deaths of two men following a house fire in Dublin.
Officers at Sundrive Road say they are investigating "all of the circumstances" surrounding the deaths in Drimnagh on Saturday.
At around 1.45pm Gardaí and Fire Services were alerted to a house fire in the Slievebloom Park area.
The fire was brought under control by Dublin Fire Brigade and the bodies of the two men - believed to be aged in their late 60s and early 70s - were discovered inside the house.
Tourism to fall by 80% this year
The head of Tourism Ireland has said that industry will be the longest one to recover from the coronavirus crisis.
Niall Gibbons told Newstalk Breakfast with Susan Keogh that, world-wide, the livelihoods of over 300 million people are "on the line."
Some 1.4 billion people took trips around the globe last year, which he said is now down to "a trickle".
He predicts that Ireland's tourism numbers will be down "about 80%" for 2020.
