Two militants killed in encounter with security forces in south Kashmir

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter which ensued when security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Monday.

Official sources said that after a tip off regarding the presence of militants at the Khur Hajipora village in Kulgam district, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint Cordon and search operation(CASO) on early Monday morning.

The hiding militants on seeing the security forces opened fire, to which the security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter. Two militants were killed in the exchange of fire confirmed official sources, they said two to three militants were reportedly trapped in the area.

Additional security forces were deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstrations. However, many villagers, particularly youth, hit the streets and clashed with security forces, who were preventing demonstrators from move towards the encounter site.
