Is today a bank holiday and when is the next one?

Coronavirus and the ensuing lockdown has made time even harder to keep track of than it was before – what with so few people leaving their homes on a regular basis.

As a result, you’d be more than forgiven for forgetting when the next bank holiday is, or for needing a reminder of whether or not today is a bank holiday.

No matter which of those you need an answer for, here’s a reminder so that you can plan your bank holidays accordingly.

When is the next bank holiday?

The spring bank holiday is indeed today, Monday 25 May.

The next bank holiday in England, Northern Ireland and Wales will be Monday 31 August.

There will also be a substitute bank holiday day to mark the Battle of the Boyne in Northern Ireland on Monday 13 July, and Scotland’s summer bank holiday will fall on Monday 3 August.

Even though lockdown measures have been slackened, tourist bodies and emergency services have asked people to stay away from beauty spots in the UK this bank holiday weekend.

There are fears that Britain’s coastlines especially could see vast numbers of people flocking to the beach amid the warmer weather to the point where social distancing will be nigh on impossible.
