Gantz: I have full confidence in the legal system - Inside Israel
Gantz comments on Netanyahu's trial: He is presumed innocent, I'm sure he will receive a fair trial.
by Hezki BaruchBlue and White chairman, Alternate Prime Minister and Defense Minister Benny Gantz, on Sunday commented for the first time on the start of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's trial.
"Like every citizen, the Prime Minister is also presumed innocent, and I am sure that the justice system will hold a fair trial for him," said Gantz, in effect responding to the Likud ministers' criticism against Netanyahu being placed on trial.
Gantz dismissed the allegations against the police, the Prosecutor's Office and the court, saying, "I reiterate that my friends and I have full confidence in the legal and law enforcement systems."
"At this time, perhaps more than ever, we must act as one state and society for unity and reconciliation, for the State of Israel and for all Israeli citizens," noted Gantz.
The comments follow criticism from the left over the silence of Gantz and Blue and White officials in light of statements made by Likud officials in preparation for the start of Netanyahu's trial.
"With Gantz's silence and Nissenkorn's weak tweet, they can simply put on a mask and join those who stand behind Netanyahu. It's already the same," tweeted former Meretz chairwoman MK Tamar Zandberg.
