Ireland is set to be sizzle this week as temperatures soar well into their 20s across the country.

After a spell of wild windy days over the weekend, Met Eireann revealed the welcome news there will be “very warm” weather for this time of year towards the end of the week.

There will be little to no rain across the country despite a few odd showers today with Thursday and Friday forecast as the best days of the week.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Monday will start dry and clear with mist and fog patches clearing.

“Later in the morning, cloud and rain will move into Atlantic coastal counties and will extend eastwards with the rain turning light and patchy.”

Humid conditions are expected throughout the day and into the evening with highest temperatures to hit between 16C to 20C but it will be cooler in western coastal areas.

Tuesday will be dry in most areas with light westerly breezes. It will be cloudy and misty at first with the odd spot of drizzle but it will brighten up with much-needed warm spells of sunshine.

Highest temperatures will range between 14C and 21C with those in southern inland counties expected to get the best of the heat.

Wednesday morning will bring some rain and drizzle to the northern half of the country, clearing to give a mostly dry afternoon with some brighter spells gradually developing.

And the good news for the southern half of the country is set to continue with the national forecaster predicting it will stay dry all day with early mist clearing to give sunny spells.

And temperatures will peak around a toasty 23C or 24C but much cooler in northern coastal areas.

The weather is then expected to become “very warm” on Thursday as the country basks in beautiful sunshine.

The forecaster added: “The rest of the week ahead looks to be warm for late May. There will be a good deal of dry weather overall.”

Met Eireann say the mercury will hit highs of 20C to 24C or 25C, but it will be a little cooler on exposed eastern and southern coasts.
