In a shocking incident in Kerala’s Kollam, the state police has arrested a person in connection with the death of his wife due to snakebite. The man bought a snake to kill his wife as he wanted to remarry.
In the preliminary investigation, police have come to the conclusion that the husband, Sooraj, used snakes to kill his wife Uthra.
Uthra was found dead at her house in Anchal on May 7. The initial investigation pointed at snakebite as the cause of death. However, Uthra's family grew suspicious of the cause as she was bitten by a snake earlier in March as well.
According to the police, Sooraj plotted the first attempt to kill his wife in February. He arranged a viper with the help of his friend Suresh. The snake bit Uthra and she was hospitalised. After more than a month's treatment Uthra was discharged and she went to her parents’ home in Anchal.
After the first attempt failed, Sooraj bought a cobra from his friend Suresh in April. On May 6, Sooraj took the snake out at night and kept it on Uthra's body. He sat in the bed and watched the snake bite Uthra twice. Later she was taken to the hospital the next day morning where her death was confirmed.
Police said that money was the actual motive behind the crime. Though Sooraj received a huge amount of money and gold as dowry, he wasn't satisfied with Uthra. He wanted to take the money and find a better partner.
Sooraj and his friend Suresh has been arrested and remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
