Man's death in north Belfast treated as 'suspicious' by police

THE death of a man whose body was discovered in a house in north Belfast is being treated by police as "suspicious".

The man's body was found at the property on Oakley Street shortly before 11pm on Saturday.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He yesterday remained in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren McCartney said: "A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the cause of death however we are treating the death as suspicious at this time.

"A 34-year-old man has been arrested as part of the investigation and remains in custody at this time.

"The investigation is at a very early stage and there are no further details available at this time."

The circumstances surrounding the death are being probed by detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team.

Police maintained a presence at the scene yesterday as their investigations continued.

DUP councillor Dale Pankhurst expressed his sympathies with the man's family and urged anyone with information to contact police.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and if anyone has any information they should get onto police," the Oldpark area representative on Belfast City Council said.
