PHOENIX — Firefighters say two families have been displaced and three dogs are dead after a double house fire in Phoenix Sunday.

Officials say the fire was reported as coming from the backyard of one of the homes and when crews arrived, they discovered two houses on fire.

Firefighters then deployed hand lines into one of the homes to gain control over the fire.

Officials say three dogs have died after being caught in the fire. There were seven dogs in the home at the time of the fire, all were removed from the home but only four survived.

A man also suffered minor burns to his forehead and arms, but declined transport to a hospital.

Two families have been displaced and are being helped by the Red Cross and Phoenix Crisis Response units.

ADOT video showed thick smoke that could be seen for miles.

Fire crews say they are going to be on scene for the next couple of hours to "address hotspots" on the homes.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
