Bengaluru Airport resumes operations with ‘contactless’ experience

by

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru has resumed domestic flight operations today. The first flight to depart from Bengaluru was an Air Asia India service to Ranchi, Jharkhand at 0515 and the first incoming flight was operated by Indigo from Chennai at 0735.

Around 60 departures and 54 arrivals have been scheduled for today.

In accordance with Ministry of Civil Aviation’s directives, Bengaluru Airport’s new schedule is 32 per cent of the original 2020 summer schedule which was expected to come into effect from March 29, 2020. The revised schedule will be in effect until June 30, 2020.

The airport will handle an average of 215 air traffic movements (ATMs) per day (108 departures and 107 arrivals), with reduced terminal capacity, to ensure social distancing. “The top airline during this schedule by ATMs will be Indigo with 47 per cent while Air Asia and Spicejet have 16 per cent and 14 per cent respectively,” the airport said in an official release.

A contactless ‘parking-to-boarding’ experience has been introduced at the airport. Heightened safety guidelines for airport taxi service, body scanning through door frame metal detectors; self-scanning of boarding pass on a sensor; sanitisation kits for passengers and contactless dining and retail are few of the safety measures adopted.

Hari Marar, managing director and chief executive officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited said, “As the Gateway to a new India, Bengaluru Airport has a key role to play in helping passengers through this global health crisis by reassuring them that their safety is our top priority.

“We have introduced innovative contactless procedures to minimise exposure at the airport. These enhancements demonstrate our continued commitment to keep our passengers safe in this environment. We believe our new measures will boost confidence among passengers.”
