TRS gains more muscle ahead of MLC polls

by

Hyderabad: The TRS party is adding more muscle in ersthwile Nizamabad with several corporators, MPTCs and ZPTCs from the Opposition parties joining the party over the last fortnight. This comes as a shot in the arm for TRS candidate K Kavitha who is contesting in the Council elections from Nizamabad local bodies constituency. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the elections were postponed twice and are likely to be held in July.

Due to its strong presence in both urban and rural local bodies, the TRS already has an edge over other parties with the party leaders confident of winning the election with around 600 of the 824 votes. The party cadres are confident that Kavitha’s victory in the MLC elections will strengthen the party further in erstwhile Nizamabad district and reduce the already weak Opposition parties to a miniscule role.

The party leaders pointed out that despite winning all major elections except the Lok Sabha, there has been a vaccum in the party leadership within the erstwhile Nizamabad district ever since Kavitha lost the Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat. However, the party cadre was infused with fresh energy and enthusiasm after her candidature for MLC constituency was announced. Several elected representatives from Opposition parties who have been seeking to join TRS, took the opportunity and have been joining TRS.

Of the 824 votes in Nizamabad local bodies constituency, TRS has more than 500 votes in its kitty after winning majority of local bodies including municipal corporations, municipalities, ZPTCs and MPTCs. Over the last a couple of weeks, there has been an exodus of elected representatives from the Opposition parties to join TRS.

In recent days, five municipal corporators of Nizamabad Municipal Corporation, one Congress councillor of Bodhan municipality, and four Congress councillors of Kamareddy municipality, joined into TRS. Similarly, two ZPTCs (Nandipet and Yergatla) in Nizamabad district joined the ruling party. At least five MPTCs from both Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, shifted to TRS.

On Sunday, Congress councilor and Bodhan Town Congress Party president Kamapalli Satyanarayana (Satyan) joined TRS in the presence of Bodhan MLA Mohammed Shakeel Amer. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been implemented several development and welfare schemes for people of the State. I decided to join TRS after getting attracted by these schemes and develop my municipal division as well as fulfill my promises to people,” he said. Similarly, a municipal councilor from Kamareddy Municipality and a MPTC from Wajid Nagar in Kamareddy district – both belonging to Congress joined TRS on Sunday.
