HP ProBook 430 G7 does not have many new features

HP has released a new affordable office laptop, the ProBook 430 G7. However, there is not a whole lot new in this device. One new feature is the processor, but it disappoints in our review.

The PC manufacturers have been maneuvered into a difficult position by Intel: While the processors normally are an argument for upgrades, this is not really the case this year. Comet Lake is a rather small upgrade compared with older Intel CPUs.

For OEMs like HP, this situation represents a challenge, as they have to use different attributes to entice upgrades. Those could include a new design or a better screen. If both is not the case, it becomes hard to justify upgrades. An example for this is the HP ProBook 430 G7.

In our comprehensive review, we quickly discovered that there were not a whole lot of changes compared to the HP ProBook 430 G6. HP has kept the design of last years model. There is a new, brighter SureView screen option. However, we unfortunately only reviewed the middling standard FHD panel that was already offered in the previous model.

Apart from Wi-Fi 6, the CPU remains as the one big new feature. But the Intel Core i7-10510U disappoints us: There is no progress in CPU performance. In return for the newer CPU, users only get a shorter battery life and the ProBook runs hotter than its predecessor.

There certainly is an argument to make that the design of the predecessor did not require a lot of changes in the first place. This is true, which is why we do recommend the HP ProBook 430 G7. Still: There are not many reasons to prefer the newer over the older ProBook.

In 2010 I started to get more and more involved with technology, especially notebooks have been my passion ever since. Of course I came across the detailed tests of Notebookcheck very quickly. With time I learned more and more about notebooks and started writing small reviews about notebooks in forums and blog pages. To earn some extra money during my studies I turned my hobby into my profession and joined the team of Notebookcheck in 2016. My personal interest is especially in business notebooks.
