Udoo X86 II: A powerful Raspberry Pi alternative that supports Windows 10 and is Arduino compatible
by Alex AldersonThe Udoo X86 II is a new alternative to the popular Raspberry Pi. The single-board computer (SBC) has been designed using an Arduino Leonardo-compatible platform and has a quad-core X86 processor.
The Udoo X86 II is a single-board computer (SBC) that addresses a similar target group to that of the Raspberry Pi. The X86 II, as its name suggests, is not another ARM-based SBC, though. Instead, it is based on the X86 architecture, making it compatible with Windows.
The X86 II comes in two variants. Udoo has distinguished the models, called the Advanced Plus and Ultra, in several areas including processor options. On the one hand, the X86 Advanced Plus comes with an Intel Celeron N3160. On the other hand, Udoo has included a Pentium N3710 is used for the X86 Ultra. Additionally, the latter has 8 GB of dual-channel RAM, whereas the former must make do with 4 GB of dual-channel memory instead. 32 GB of eMMC flash storage is offered with both models, though. There is also an M.2 key e slot for adding more storage or a Wi-Fi module.
Both models support Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, two mini DisplayPorts and measure 120 x 85 mm. An ATmega32U4 MCU is on board too, making the Udoo X86 compatible with the Arduino platform. To that end, there are 20 GPIO pins for I2C and UART. Additionally, the Udoo X86 II supports Android, Linux and Windows 7 through 10. Udoo and Mouser state that both models are suitable for the following applications:

- Smart home gateway

- Educational
The Udoo X86 II costs US$196.10 for the Advanced Plus model and US$323.38 for the Ultra version. Neither are cheap by any means, but they are rather powerful by SBC standards.
