LG Velvet: Snapdragon 765G smartphone scheduled for North American release; LG Q61 could be on the way too
by Alex AldersonThe LG Velvet is coming to North America, according to South Korean media. Possibly costing upwards of US$735, the device features a 6.8-inch OLED display, a Sony IMX586 primary camera and a Snapdragon 765G processor. The newly announced LG Q61 appears to be getting an international release, too.
It seems that LG is bringing its Velvet smartphone to North America, after all. Announced earlier this month in the company's home market of South Korea, the LG Velvet has a Snapdragon 765G processor, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 flash storage. The device, which has a 6.8-inch P-OLED panel, also has three rear-facing cameras a single front-facing sensor contained within a waterdrop notch.
According to reports from Korea media, LG plans to release the Velvet in the North American market for equivalent to the KRW 899,800 that it charges for the device in South Korea. This would equate to around US$735, CAD$1,015 and MXN$16,483. Whichever you cut it, this would make the LG Velvet considerably more expensive than competing Snapdragon 765G-powered handsets.
No date has been offered for a US release, though. However, it may coincide with the release of the Q61 which LG announced last week. Unlike the LG Velvet, the Q61 runs on a MediaTek chipset and is an iterative upgrade over the Q60. By contrast, the Q61 retails for KRW 369,600, which currently converts to a more palatable price tag of around US$300, CAD$417 and MXN$6,770.
We shall keep you updated when we learn of release dates, availability and prices for either device.
