Leak suggests that the Redmi Monitor 1A is a cheaper version of the Mi Display 1A
by Anil SatyanarayanaRedmi's upcoming monitor will be called the Redmi Monitor 1A, according to well-known leaker Ishan Agarwal. Much like the Mi Display 1A, it will also come with a 60Hz 23.8-inch IPS LCD panel. The monitor will reportedly cost around $85 and will be unveiled alongside a host of other products on May 26th.
Xiaomi took the smart TV market by storm when it unleashed a barrage of affordable Android-ready televisions. The company is now looking to establish its presence in the highly-lucrative affordable monitor segment. An earlier leak speculated that Redmi was planning on entering the market with an offering of its own. We now know that it will be called the Redmi Display 1A.
Renowned leaker Ishan Agarwal told 91mobiles that the Redmi Monitor 1A would come with a 23.8-inch LCD screen, much like the Mi Display 1A. The information falls in line with Xiaomishka's leak from a few days ago, which stated the same thing, sans the product name. Ishan also adds that it could have a 178-degree viewing angle, and a 60Hz refresh-rate, indicating that it could be an IPS panel. It'll be interesting to see how Redmi's product differs from Xiaomi's, as both appear to have identical hardware.
The Redmi Monitor 1A will debut on May 26th alongside the Redmi 10X series of smartphones, a new line of Redmi Smart TVs, and Redmibook laptops. The monitor is expected to cost around $85, which is $14 less than the Mi Display 1A's asking price of $99.
Is the Redmi Monitor 1A merely a Mi Display 1A with a fresh coat of paint and a lower price tag? Xiaomi's vast (and often confusing) repertoire of products are known to undercut each other, and that's all a part of the plan, apparently. It is also worth noting that Xiaomi has plans to release new monitors later in the year. So this could be the company's way of clearing leftover stock to make room for future SKUs.
