Rumored clockspeeds leak for 4.8 GHz AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT, 4.7 GHz Ryzen 7 3700XT and Ryzen 5 3600XT: Upclocked Matisse refresh takes on Comet Lake S i7-10700K and i9-10900K

A user on the Chiphell forums posted what appear to be base and boost clocks for the purported Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT, and Ryzen 5 3600XT. The CPU, which clock up to 4.8 GHz seem to be a short-term counter to Comet Lake S while AMD preps Ryzen 4000.

A user over on the Chiphell forums posted what appear to be base and boost clock speeds for AMD's upcoming Matisse Refresh Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT, and Ryzen 5 3600XT. The Ryzen 9 3900XT is set to feature a 4.1 GHz base clock and 4.8 GHz boost clock. That's 300 MHz up from the base clock and 200 Mhz up from the boost clock of the existing Ryzen 9 3900X.

Meanwhile, the Ryzen 7 3800XT and Ryzen 5 3600XT get boosts to their capabilities, too. The Ryzen 7 3800XT sees a 300 MHz bump up from Ryzen 7 3800X base clocks and a 200 MHz bump to 3800X boost clocks. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 3600XT pushes the max boost clock up to 4.7 GHz, 300 MHz above the Ryzen 5 3600X and beyond what most users can overclock 3600 series parts to. We haven't gotten official word yet from AMD about these parts.

However, the move appears to be an attempt to counter Intel's launch of the Comet Lake S lineup. With the arrival of the 5.3 GHz Intel Core i9-10900K, Intel's firmly secured the "fastest gaming CPU" crown. However, at US$488, it's not much of a value proposal for any other workload, considering that the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X is selling for US$100 less. Other Comet Lake S parts like the Comet Lake S Core i7-10700K also trump AMD alternatives in gaming workloads at their respective price-points.

Through Matisse refresh, AMD seems to be trying to narrow the gaming gap while we wait for Ryzen 4000 desktop processors to arrive later this year.
