They were known to argue often over doubts regarding woman’s affair; man is a cook in army

On Sunday, a man stabbed his wife and then tried to kill self at their Vishrantwadi home at 4 am. The incident was first brought to notice of a special police officer (SPO) appointed in the area for the lockdown phase, who then informed the police. Cops immediately rushed to the couple to Sassoon General Hospitals for treatment. The woman has been severely injured in the incident. Acase was registered and the husband has been arrested.

According to information given by the police, Rohit More (31), a resident of Shantinagar, was nabbed for assaulting his wife, Manasi, after a near by local, Sagar Alhaat, reported the incident. Alhaat also lodged the complaint. Ashish Wankhede, president of a nearby Ganesh mandal, said, “We have been helping the local SPO during the lockdown. Since people are aware about it, the local called us for help regarding the crime.”

More is posted in Srinagar as a cook with the army. He had come to Pune before the lockdown and has been stuck here ever since. If the report is to be believed, Rohit always doubted his wife characters — often accusing her being embroiled in affair with another. It had caused arguments between them previously.

On Sunday, a small squabble assumed a large proportion between the couple. Rohit was displeased with his wife since the cooler fan was not turned towards him. In a fit of anger, he stabbed her 14 times.

Arun Avhad, senior police inspector of Vishrantwadi police station, said, “Rohit always expressed doubts on Manasi’s character. On Sunday, he stabbed her on the chest, hands and mouth and later tried to commit suicide. Manasi is undergoing treatment for her wounds.”

When cops got to know of the incident, Avhad along with deputy commissioner of police Pankaj Deshmukh, assistant commissioner of police Laxman Borate and crime inspector Ravindra Kadam rushed to the spot. The Vishrantwadi police have registered a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Rohit.

The case is being investigated by the assistant inspector Sandeep Yadav.
