Right now in Fortnite there is a countdown timer to…something happening in the game. In Midas’ office in the menu, we can see a Doomsday Device spooling up, and it seems like it’s going to be set off at The Agency. We don’t know exactly what it does, but it is likely going to reshape the Chapter 2 map in some way.

How? Flooding. We have already seen teasers for next season that are water themed, showing floating houses and sharks and such, and it appears that some portion of the map is going to be flooded. After doing an extensive geological survey of the current map, I think I have identified six areas that I would deem the most at risk, and between them, they contain most of the current named locations on the map. I don’t know if these zones would be totally wiped away or just transformed into flooded versions of themselves, but here’s where I see the most pending danger.

1. Obviously these low lying islands by The Shark, including The Shark itself, are at risk if there’s a general rise in the water level. Technically most of the coasts are in danger, but these in particular, in addition to Sweaty Sands at the beach, could be learning a lesson about the dangers of video game global warming.

2. If this device is set off at The Agency, it seems likely the entire Agency itself could be leveled or flooded if that central lake rises. And Risky Reels and Salty Spring are close enough where if that does happen, they could be underwater too. There are recently bubbling hatches around The Agency in the lake that could perhaps lead to a surge of water in this zone if they burst.

3. There’s an area in this part of the map with two rivers, and if those see a surge of water, flooding could drench this area including Frenzy Farm itself.

4. I think that already in-water new Spy Base landmarks like The Yacht and The Rig are going to be washed way completely. I mean The Rig is already mostly destroyed after TNTina blew it up. I don’t see it sticking around. And that boat’s gonna sink, Deadpool party palace or not.

5. If general sea levels rise, that puts Dirty Docks and The Grotto at risk. The Grotto literally sits in an underwater cavern which could easily be flooded completely. South of that, however, are mountains that are the one coastal area that probably would not be affected by a general sea level rise.

6. So, the most potential for flooding is this zone, not just because it’s a big lake, but because the Doomsday device could easily shatter the dam at the west side of the lake. That would result in guaranteed flooding at Slurpy Swamp. If the level of that lake rises more general, that could put Misty Meadows and Lazy Lake at risk.

So, is anything safe? I think landlocked areas like Pleasant Park or Holly Hedges are the most likely to remain dry. And anything that is remotely mountainous like the entire south east part of the map. But most everything else is fair game. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
