Covid-19 cases breach 2k mark in Karnataka

by

The number of Covid-19 cases in Karnataka breached the 2,000-mark on Sunday. There has been a rapid increase in the number of cases as the state crossed the 1,000 cases mark on May 15.

One of the main reasons for the rising cases can be attributed to returnees from other states who still account for 80 per cent of the cases.

Meanwhile, a 100 cases a day has become a routine affair as officials said that 28 out of the 30 districts in Karnataka are recording cases on a daily basis. Even if each of these 28 districts records four cases a day, it can easily cross 100 cases. Meanwhile, so far, Chamarajanagar and Ramanagara have been able to retain their green zone status. On Sunday, some cops in the state tested positive.

While a constable who returned from Bengaluru tested positive in Hassan, an assistant sub-inspector of police and a constable tested positive in Karkala. Similarly, another cop tested positive in Brahmavara and Vittla in Dakshina Kannada. A number of police stations where these cops were working have been sealed. Recently, cops tested positive in Hebbagodi and Fraser Town in Bengaluru.

On Sunday, while Chikkaballapura reported 27 cases, Udupi reported 23 cases, Mandya reported 15 and Hassan reported 14 cases. A UK returnee who was under institutional quarantine tested positive in Bengaluru. This is the second foreign returnee to Bengaluru who has tested positive since repatriation flights commenced.
