KSU irked at harassment of state returnees

SHILLONG: Following the harassment of students from Meghalaya at a railway station in Bihar, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi unit has urged the concerned authorities and the state government to take up the matter with the Ministry of Railways.
The union in a statement issued here has also requested for security personnel for special trains coming from Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala etc.
It expressed concern at the disturbance caused by people from Bihar, who entered a train in which 90 people from the state were on their way home from Haryana on May 23.
A statement from KSU Delhi unit said that the students were already confused as there was no arrangement to take them to the screening location. Despite all this, Nodal officer, IR Sangma, did not give any instruction or receive their calls of distress.
The vice president of KSU Delhi unit was also informed that when the train stopped at Danapur Railway Station, Bihar the Meghalaya returnees were disturbed by railway police personnel and there was an attempt to forcibly allow persons inside the train which frightened passengers, including women, from the state.
‘Ensure safe return’
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central executive committee (CEC) said that the state government should ensure that returnees to the state are not harassed in view of the recent incident in Bihar.
In a statement issued here, the KSU CEC said that the union will not be a mute spectator if the locals who are returning to the state face harassment.
The KSU has condemned the recent harassment and asked the state government to take the matter seriously so that the incident is not repeated.
The union has urged the state government to take up the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
