Panic grips Ri Bhoi border as 6 CRPF men test positive

NONGPOH: Panic gripped the border residents on Sunday after 6 jawans of the CRPF camp at 9 Mile, in Ri Bhoi border were tested positive for COVID-19.
The fear of the villagers at 9 Mile, Baridua, is due to the fact that many jawans of the camp visited the market for buying essential commodities. As the news spread, the legislator of Jirang constituency Sosthenes Sohtun met the villagers along with the village authority of 9 Mile, Baridua to discuss the matter with an intention to allay the fear of the villagers.
During the meeting, Sohtun also accompanied by the Syiem of Raid Marwet Ken Syiem and other village heads, including the representative of Killing Dorbar, discussed the need to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Sohtun urged all villagers and residents not to panic at this juncture and wanted them to follow the health protocols as advised.
“It is a matter of concern as many CRPF jawans had visited the market located at 9 Mile to meet their daily needs, therefore, fear has gripped the locality of 9 Mile, Baridua”, Sohtun said.
In the meeting with the local heads and residents, Sohtun suggested that the market at 9 Mile should be closed for a few days to stop the movement of villagers to the market which is near the CRPF camp.
