Ahmedabad accounted for 28, or 96.5%, of the total 29 deaths due to Covid-19 that were reported on Sunday. The death toll in the district now stands at 697. As many as 279 new cases were reported in 24 hours, taking the overall tally 10,280 in the district so far.
Of the 279 new cases, 7 were reported in Ahmedabad (Rural)-one each in Bopal and Vahelal, two in Sanand and three in Dholka.
Among the 28 deaths, two were in Sabarmati, two in Chandkheda, one in Paldi and one in Satellite. Thus, six of the total deaths were in western Ahmedabad.
According to sources, two persons died within 24 hours of being admitted in the hospital. One of them was from Chandkheda and the other from Gomtipur.
North zone of city reported most deaths
North zone of Ahmedabad city reported the maximum deaths, 8,on Sunday. Two deaths each were reported in Saijpur, Saraspur and one each in Bapunagar, India Colony, Kubernagar and Thakkarbapanagar.
It was followed by seven in east zone where Gomtipur, Amraiwadi and Viratnagar reported two each, Odhav reported one death.
There were two deaths in Khadia in central zone.
In south zone, Maninagar and Isanpur reported two deaths while Vatva reported one.
A total of 187 patients were discharged from hospitals in Ahmedabad, taking the total number of the recovered patients in the district to 4,051, the official said, adding that the number of active cases stood at 5,532.
At 1,132, the highest number of active cases is reported from Central zone in Ahmedabad followed by south zone and north zone which have 1,054 and 830 cases, respectively. According to Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Gupta, in-charge of Covid management in Ahmedabad, the diamond industry in eastern Ahmedabad will reopen from Monday. Lockdown was recently relaxed for areas outside the containment zones in east ern Ahmedabad.
Factories were opened earlier, and now the diamond industry will resume operations from Monday. However, shops other than those selling essential items have not been allowed to open. Fruit and vegetable markets continue to remain closed.
394 new cases, 29 deaths in Gujarat
Gujarat on Sunday reported 394 new COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths, taking the overall case count to 14,063 and the fatalities to 858, a Health department official said.
A total of 21 of the 29 deceased were suffering from comorbidities, the official said. Meanwhile, the number of the people recovered from the infection rose to 6,412 with 243 patients discharged from hospital in the day.
Gujarat now has 6,793 active cases, of which 67 are on ventilators, the official added.
The number of the COVID-19 cases in Surat and Vadodara stands at 1,320 and 836, respectively.
Gujarat has so far tested 1,82,869 samples, the official said, adding that a total of 4,65,312 people are placed under quarantine in the state.
