Hry BJP suspends Chander Prakash Kathuria from party

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled its leader from Haryana’s Karnal, Chander Parkash Kathuria, from the primary membership of the party for six years.

Kathuria, a special invitee of the party's state executive committee, was suspended by state BJP chief Subhash Barala on Sunday.

However, the reason behind his suspension was not mentioned in the letter issued by Barala. A letter issued at the state BJP headquarters in Rohtak stated that Kathuria has been suspended for six years from the primary membership of the party.

Kathuria (51) is a former chairman of the Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited.

The party’s action against Kathuria came two days after a video purportedly showed the party leader having fallen on the ground when he allegedly tried to descend from the second-floor balcony of a flat in Chandigarh with the help of a cloth.

He had fractured his foot while trying to come down the balcony and was admitted at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for treatment.

After the incident, the Chandigarh Police had issued a statement stating that the BJP leader was injured after he fell while escaping from the second floor of a building in Sector 63 where he had gone to meet a female friend on Friday evening. A person had come there and to avoid to see him, Kathuria tried to come down through balcony and feel down from second floor.

No complaint was made in this regard. While the family told that they are taking him to Fortis from PGIMER, he was not admitted in Fortis as per records. The patient was declared unfit for statement by the PGIMER. A text was received by concerned SHO from Kathuria’s wife saying that they will inform the police about his heath, the UT Police had stated.

The incident had brought major embarrassment to the ruling BJP in Haryana and is seen as a reason for Kathuria’s expulsion from the party.
