Maruti employee tests Covid +ve

An employee of the Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) at Manesar plant tested positive for coronavirus, an official spokesman of the company said on Saturday.

The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) had re-opened the Manesar facility earlier this month after around 50 days of closure due to coronavirus-led lockdown.

The said employee had worked at the plant on May 15 after which his residence came into a containment zone and he did not join work thereafter.

He tested positive for the Covid-19 on May 22.

The Company has informed the district administration about the employee who has since been admitted to a hospital and his condition is said to stable.

"We are providing all medical help and assistance to him as per government guidelines," the spokesperson said in a statement.

"There may be a possibility of a second case of infection that has just been reported. More information is being sought", the MSIL official said.

"The company has identified other employees who are working in his team. All of them have been asked to stay at home quarantine," he said.

The Manesar plant manufactures vehicles such as the Swift, DZire and Celerio.

Also, the Gurugram district on Sunday reported 09 more coronavirus cases in different localities of the city, a senior health official said.

Gurugram Civil Surgeon JS Punia said 2 new patients were reported in Rajendra Park area which is included in high risk zone. One case each was reported from Nai Basti, Krishna Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Pataudi, Sector-10A, Sector-22A and Jharsa.

The city now has 271 positive cases, including 105 still admitted in different hospitals. As many as 166 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals.

Gurugram also registered 2 corona deaths in Sector 54 and Rajendra Park area in the last 3 days.
