Criminal carrying Rs 50K bounty held

The Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested a man who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 for a case of armed robbery and attempt to murder was absconding since last 10 months after jumping parole.

The accused identified as Mohammad Israel (49), son of Sahabuddin of village Samana, Ghaziabad, has assumed a new identity in the name of  Ajay Bidhuri to hoodwink the police. Israel was a member of infamous biker gang of 2008 led by Om Prakash and was previously found involved in more than 20 henious cases.

According to Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell), Israel had jumped parole in July, 2019 and was now planning to commit armed robbery in Delhi-NCR during lockdown period.

"Police received specific information about his movements and a team was deployed at MP Road from where he was arrested on Saturday night. At about 7 pm, he was spotted arriving on a motorcycle near Kaya Maya hospital, MB road. Seeing police, he whipped out his pistol and threatened to fire. When asked to surrender, he fired a shot towards police. In self defense, even police team fired in the area but no one was hurt. Later, Israel was overpowered and disarmed," said the DCP.

"One single shot pistol with three live cartridges and a bike was recovered from him at the time of his arrest. Being an active member of a biker gang led by Om Prakash in 2008, during that year, members of this gang committed several sensational armed robberies creating fear among traders, shopkeepers and citizens in Delhi," the DCP said.

"Om Prakash and his associate Rajesh died in an exchange of fire with Delhi Police on August 25, 2008 but Israel managed escaped but he was subsequently arrested," said the DCP.

"Israel was convicted in four cases. He was facing trial in other cases and remained in jail since then upto June 2019, but was released on parole and has been absconding since then," the DCP added.
