UP to set up ‘Migration Commission’
by PNSIn order to provide jobs to the migrant workers coming home in large numbers from other states, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced to set up of a ‘Migration Commission’ that will work for their job security.
The decision to set up the commission was taken in the Team 11 meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath here on Sunday.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi told media persons here on Sunday that the ‘Migration Commission’ would study the data and profile of the migrants and ensure jobs for them as per their skills in all the sectors. Through this commission, social participation of the migrant workers would be ensured, he added.
“Already 23 lakh migrant workers have reached the state and more are expected in the near future. During the recording of the profiles of these migrants, we have come to know that a good numbers of paramedics and technicians along with other skilled workers are among those who have returned to UP. Now, we will have to take the opportunity and give these migrants jobs so that they stay here,” he said .
The chief minister has said that all the migrants will be given Rs 1,000 along with other things like free food grains, job cards for unskilled workers and permanent jobs for the skilled workers.
“The chief minister has also asked officials to commence the plan to provide houses on rent to the migrants and poor as per the announcement by the Centre under the Rs 20 lakh crore package,” Awasthi said.
The government has also decided to provide TrueNet testing machines to district hospitals so that they could start COVID-19 test so that the state achieves the target of testing maximum samples.
The additional chief secretary said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed officials to ensure availability of ventilators, personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks at district level and to review availability of anaesthesiologists in every district.
He said that following the instructions of the chief minister, the Health department had increased the number of beds in Level-1, Level-2 and Level-3 hospitals. He said now these hospitals had more than 78,000 beds and efforts were being made to increase the number of beds to one lakh in the coming days.
Awasthi said that on the directive of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shramik Special trains were being run continuously for Uttar Pradesh. He said that till 12 noon on Sunday, 1,113 trains had arrived in the state, ferrying 14.88 lakh people and 103 more trains would come within two to three days.
He said apart from this, consent had also been given for more trains and in this way, 1,321 trains had been arranged by which 18 lakh migrants would arrive in UP.
The additional chief secretary said that buses were being run from Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and 2.43 lakh people had come by these buses.
Yogi Adityanath said that those not wearing masks should be fined and they should also be given two masks on the spot, Awasthi said, adding that so far 8,000 people had been fined in the state for violating this norm.
He said that the belongings like baggage, mobile, charger of the quarantined people would be disinfected. Apart from this, instructions have been given to disinfect the belongings of persons who have completed the quarantine period.
