Here’s where Xur is in Destiny 2 today, and what you should buy from him

by

Xûr is Destiny 2’s Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game’s most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you’re a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That’s where we come in.

Xûr appears every Friday at 17:00 GMT (9:00 Pacific), and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We’ll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you’re reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he’s selling this week. Ever since the Forsaken expansion, Xûr’s icon no longer appears on your director, so he’s not quite as easy to track down as he used to be. That said, his appearances in the EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io, and The Tower have so far been in the same places he frequented in vanilla Destiny 2. So if you’ve been following Destiny 2 from the start, you should have no problem finding the merchant’s spots.

Xûr is back on Nessus this week, at the Barge. He is selling:

Tractor Cannon gives you Repulsor Force, which pushes enemies away – perfect for controlling the flow of a fight and keeping fellow shotgun-wielders out of range. And, naturally, you can give enemies a fun little ‘boop’ to their deaths when they wander too close to a pit. Not essential, but extremely fun.

The Dragon’s Shadow offers Wraithmetal Mail, which gives you instant reloads across all weapons and brief buffs to movement speed and weapon handling when you dodge. That makes one of the Hunter’s most proactive tools even more useful, and if you’ve built to keep your dodges regenerating fast you’re going to have near-total uptime on a grip of useful perks. That makes this chest well worthwhile.

Starfire Protocol is a Warlock chest piece that grants an extra fusion grenade charge, much like it did in the original Destiny. It was out of the meta then because firebolt grenades were OP for so long, and because there was a subclass perk that gave a second grenade charge anyway. In Destiny 2, it’s slightly more tempting, especially because it will also grant Rift energy with fusion grenade kills. Community testing has shown that ‘sticky’ grenades of all kinds, including fusions, are really weak, but having two charges will offset that a little. Nonetheless, it’s hard to recommend – it’s very niche, being limited to one subclass and one grenade type, and Warlocks undoubtedly have many better options.

Wormgod Caress offers the Burning Fists perk, which gives you increased melee damage after each melee kill, with further kills stacking both duration and effect. That’s not great in PvP, since melee can already be a one hit kill for Titans, but is pretty useful in both Gambit and PvE. Of course, you probably don’t need Xur for this, since it’s the reward for completing the Warmind campaign – chances are, it’s already in your inventory. (And it’s currently disabled, so…)
