Eye on safety, graffiti
by Jon ManchesterThe City of Vernon is looking for safety ambassadors and anti-tag team members.
The Vernon Safety Ambassador program offers a unique opportunity for individuals looking towards a career in enforcement, education, human services worker, or nursing, the city says in a job posting that went out Friday.
"Trained by the City of Vernon, RCMP, bylaw compliance, frontline service providers, and Interior Health, the Vernon Safety Ambassador provides a vital link to the community. Applicants with career aspirations in any of these areas are encouraged to highlight this in their application."
Four ambassadors are sought for the spring through summer openings, and would report to the city's Community Safety Co-ordinator.
Ambassadors will assist with community safety outreach programs and patrol the city on foot and on bike. They may also be called to assist city staff in emergency response situations.
Two anti-tag team members are also sought.
Successful applicants will identify, document, and work with landlords and tenants in the removal of graffiti. They will also work with the business community to deliver a community based anti-graffiti/tagging initiative.
