Nahki Wells pays Leeds United big compliment ahead of Saturday duel

by

Nahki Wells has told the Bristol Post that Leeds United are heading in the right direction ahead of Saturday’s clash between the striker’s new side Bristol City and Leeds at Elland Road.

Wells, 29, joined Bristol City in the January window on a permanent basis from Premier League side. The Robins chose to sign Wells after he starred for QPR during the first half of the campaign – netting 15 goals in just 29 outings.

The Bermuda international is said to have cost Lee Johnson’s side £5million (BBC), a move which was orchestrated just days after he scored against Leeds for QPR in a 1-0 win at Loftus Road. The striker scored controversially, with replays showing he handled.

Wells could be in for a somewhat cauldron-like reception at Elland Road on Saturday as he takes on Leeds for a third time this season, and he stated he has “history” with the Whites. But he did state that they were going in the right direction.

“I got the better of them at QPR at home, I got the winner, so I’m familiar with scoring against them. So I do have a history with them and it’s one I’m looking forward to,” Wells said.

“It’s a fantastic stadium, a well supported club and one moving in the right direction. But we’re here to stop that.”

TBR’s view – If Leeds can cope with Wells, three points is secured

The momentum and confidence is back at Leeds after an excellent performance and well-earned point at Griffin Park on Tuesday night – a match which saw Leeds dominate the game, and defend superbly to keep out Brentford’s attack.

Now, the likes of Liam Cooper and Ben White will need to be at the top of their game come Saturday – and keeping Championship expert Wells quiet will be a major step towards three crucial points.

Leeds need to win on Saturday to get their promotion campaign back on track. Stopping Wells will be pivotal to doing that.
