West Bengal: IAS weds IPS, eyebrows raised over marriage registry in groom's office

Their wedding has raised several brows as the registry was done in a government office, also presently where Tushar Singla is posted.

An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer on Friday wed an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, making their Valentine's Day of 2020 a memorable one. IAS Tushar Singla of the 2015 batch of Bengal cadre got married to Navjot Simmi who is an IPS officer from the 2018 batch of the Bihar cadre.

Navjot Simmi is presently posted as an ACP in Patna. Both of them are the residents of Punjab.

The duo tied the knot in a very closed and personal affair by registering their marriage. Tushar Singla, dressed in a formal suit was accompanied with Navjot Simmi, donning a red saree for the occasion.

However, their wedding has raised several brows as the registry was done in a government office, also presently the posting of Tushar Singla.

The process of the registry of their marriage was completed in Tushar Singla's office on Friday. After this, the newly-married went to the temple and offered prayers.

When asked about the same, State Minister and Howrah district president Arup Roy said, "There is nothing wrong in this. The registry of the marriage is also a legal process. Therefore, there should be no dispute regarding the marriage being held in the government office."

"Both of them have just signed. No banquet has happened there. There is no question of dispute in this situation. I don't think there is any problem with the two people getting married in a government office. It is nowhere an offence for me. Perhaps he was on duty, as a result of which he did it in office. The two of them just signed the papers. But there has been no celebration. Hence I don't find it to be offensive," he said.
