Hazmat suits spotted at hospital but no need to panic

A training exercise took place at the Royal Liverpool hospital to prepare for an incident involving hazardous chemicals.

Pictures were taken at the Royal after visitors to the site saw someone in a hazmat suit and wondered what it was. Sensitivities are particularly heightened because of the coronavirus outbreak.

In response, the Royal put out its own tweet.

The posted: "The Royal’s emergency department team have been practicing using equipment to care for patients who’ve come into contact with hazardous chemicals today as part of routine regular training to ensure safe care in the event of a real incident ever occurring."

A spokesperson said: "The photo is of the Royal's emergency department team practicing using equipment to care for patients who've come into contact with hazardous chemicals.

"It was part of routine regular training to ensure safe care in the event of a real incident ever occurring.
