Energoatom generates 7.8 bln kWh of electricity in Jan 2020

The company's power plants sold 7.375 billion kWh of electricity over the period under review.

State-run enterprise Energoatom, the operator of Ukrainian-based nuclear power plants, generated 7.825 billion kWh of electricity in January 2020, which was 126.6 million kWh, or 1.6%, up from the target set for the period.

Over the period under review, Energoatom's power plants sold 7.375 billion kWh of electricity, which was 149.1 million kWh up from the target. The plan for electricity supplies was fulfilled by 102.1%, according to the company's report released on its website.

The installed capacity utilization factor in the first month of 2020 was 75.8%, which was 2.8 percentage points down year-over-year (78.6%). Over the period under review, Energoatom accounted for 55.5% of Ukraine's total electricity output.

"In January 2020, some UAH 1.376 billion [US$56.2 million] in taxes was paid to budgets of all levels and UAH 236.7 million [US$9.7 million] in insurance payments," the report said.

UNIAN memo. Energoatom is Ukraine's largest electricity producer, accounting for about 50% of the country's overall power output. Energoatom is responsible for the safe operation of the country's nuclear power plants.

Ukraine ranks seventh globally in terms of the installed capacity of its nuclear power generating units. Energoatom operates four nuclear power plants across Ukraine with a total of 15 power generating units, all with VVER-type reactors. Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, operating six power units with a total capacity of 6 GW, is Europe's largest.
