Three things we spotted in Manchester United training ahead of Chelsea game

Man Utd have spent the last week in Marbella for a warm weather training camp before playing Chelsea in the Premier League.

Manchester United have held their last training session in Spain ahead of a return to Manchester.

United have enjoyed two weeks off due to the inaugural Premier League winter break and following a week's holiday the squad reconvened for warm weather training in Marbella.

United will return to England on Friday and train at Carrington on Saturday before a hectic week of fixtures begins with a trip to Chelsea on Monday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will then take flight again to face Club Brugge in the Europa League on Thursday before relegation strugglers Watford visit Old Trafford.

Before the three matches in seven days get underway, however, United's stars enjoyed one final training session in sunny Spain.

Here are the three things we noticed from the session:

High spirits despite uncertainty

Despite his future at United being unresolved, youngster Tahith Chong looked in good spirits while getting involved in games with his teammates.

The 20-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the season and while United have offered an extension, the deal remains unsigned.

Chong has appeared regularly in the cup competitions this season but hasn't played in the Premier League since a four minute cameo against Newcastle in October, and has been linked with a move to Juventus or Inter.

The Dutchman has a massive few months ahead of him but isn't letting that have an impact on his training.

Still on the road to recovery

United have sorely missed both Axel Tuanzebe and Scott McTominay and the fact that the pair were able to make the trip to Spain came as a boost, however, there won't be an immediate return to action.

Solskjaer has revealed that the pair, as well as Timothy Fosu-Mensah, weren't involved a lot with the rest of the teammates, instead working on their recoveries and fitness individually.

"Don’t think we’ll get anyone back for the Chelsea game ready," the United boss said. "Scotty, Axel, Tim they didn’t join too much so they are not ready to play that game."

McTominay hasn't played since Boxing Day due to knee ligament damage whereas Tuanzebe has struggled with muscle problems and hasn't featured since before Christmas. Fosu-Mensah did make his comeback for the reserves last month but has a quad issue.

Already a fan favourite

It's hardly a surprise, but it looks like Bruno Fernandes has already established himself as a firm favourite among United fans, as many rushed to get a photo with him before training.

After months of speculation, Fernandes finally arrived in Manchester two days before the January transfer window deadline for an initial £47million deal from Sporting.

Just three days after arriving Fernandes made his debut against Wolves and impressed with his class and composure in the middle of the park, fitting straight into the side.

Now the training camp has given the Portuguese time to get to know his new teammates it'll be interesting to see how well he does in his next match.
