One of the disappointments due to the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress this year has been the opportunity missed with the Sony Xperia models. These were expected to be showcased at the event. There were at least three devices the market was looking at; the Sony Xperia 5 Plus which would have been a flagship and Xperia 9 and Xperia 1.1. The company may hold a separate event to announce these.  Meanwhile, some leaks have surfaced which claim the Sony Xperia camera section could be similar to the just released Samsung Galaxy S20+.

Leaked Camera Specs of the Sony Xperia 1.1

The leak is by Zachbucks, considered an insider. The claim being made in this leak is that the Sony Xperia 1.1 will sport a quad-camera arrangement in the rear panel. The main sensor is likely to be a 12MP shooter, 64MP hybrid zoom camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens and lastly a Time of Flight (ToF) camera. Now, this is precisely the camera arrangement you will find on the Samsung Galaxy S20+. The more incredible claim by Zachbucks is that most of these cameras will be purchased by Sony from Samsung and fitted on their device. It is a little hard to believe since it is Sony that supplies cameras to many smartphone manufacturers. It is possible that the 64MP sensor could be sourced from Samsung, if at all.

8K HDR Video Capability

An even more surprising claim in the leak is that the Sony Xperia 1.1 will have the capability to capture 8K HDR videos. This could be a first for any smartphone since the practice is to have regular videos being made in 4K or 8K. If this claim is true, then this will again be a feature better than those found in the Samsung Galaxy S20 phones. It has to be conceded that the Sony Xperia 1 does have the facility to take videos in HDR quality in 4K.

Sony Xperia 9 Render Leaked

Another random render has also appeared online claiming it to be the Sony Xperia 9. It has the rear as well as the front of the phone taken in landscape. The rear panel shows a triple camera setup and the front has a prominent top bezel and a thin chin at the bottom. So far, the only information on the Sony Xperia 9 is that it will come fitted with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC.

A bulk of the information above could be in the realm of speculation. It has to be treated as such.
